Kelly Caldwell is the founder, site designer, web master and Calendar Editor of Guatadopt.com. She is the adoptive mother of a little girl from Guatemala and an adoption advocate.

In 2001, she had her first taste of the difficulties of adoption. Her family wanted to adopt two little girls from Costa Rica while maintaining a close relationship to their birth mother. They were disappointed to find that the changing laws of the country would prevent any hope of an adoption. The experience opened her eyes to the politics, fears and difficulties of adopting internationally. In 2002, her family's life was blessed with the addition of their Guatemalan daughter. She fell in love with Guatemala and the warmth of the people. During the Hague Crisis of 2003, she dedicated much of her spare time updating parents on the status of adoptions by reporting updates from ADA (Asociacion Defensores de la Adopcion) and newly formed FOA (Focus on Adoption) who were fighting the destructive effects of the Hague implementation. The eventual resolution was a relief to many parents who had wondered if their children would ever be allowed to come home. By that time, the site had taken on a life of its own as a source of information and support for parents.

In 2004 - 2005, she temporarily gave up her career in software engineering and worked with Children of the World, Inc. (St. Louis, MO) as a coordinator. In an effort to keep the site non-agency specific, she turned over the lead writing to Kevin. She also assisted Focus on Adoption with their 1st Conference in Guatemala, January 2005. Her experience gave her a greater appreciation for the difficulties facing adoptive parents, birth mothers, agencies and attorneys.

Kelly returned to a more active role on the site in mid 2005 and resumed her initial career in software engineering. She continues to manage/design the site including writing, though her time is limited when she is working full-time. She dedicates much of her time/effort to keeping the site as accurate as possible. Most notably, she is an advocate for the rights of the child. She believes (as do the writers on this site) that each child is an individual with different needs and different circumstances. If adoption is the best option for the child and birth family, then she hopes that it is an option that is always available. Most importantly, she believes ethical adoptions are possible without politically motivated delays and crippling red-tape.

Kevin Kreutner (Guatadopt spokesperson/lead writer) is first and foremost the proud father of two children adopted from Guatemala.  He has been a long time child advocate with prior involvement in both the Make A Wish Foundation and Big Brother/Big Sister.  An activist at heart, he became involved in adoption advocacy while The Hague Convention crisis hit Guatemalan adoptions in 2003.   That involvement led to his joining Guatadopt.com, participating in the creation of Families Without Borders, and his current role serving on the Board of Directors for Focus on Adoption.  Kevin also acts as an official spokesperson for the site. He currently works as a brand marketer in the food service industry and resides with his wife and children in Wisconsin.
