Great! (Especially since I lost all my photos of Antigua). Do you have any of the yellow archway?

WE remember these sites vividly. The old church, having lunch in the restaurant with the musicians playing in the background. The tour of the hotel (that was once a monastary). Thank you for bringing back such wonderful images!

Photo #14 (volcano) was actually taken in Guatemala City, was it not? I have almost the same shot from our balcony at the Marriott...

To person who posted on March 19 or others. I have some photos of the yellow archway (and other photos from Antigua) from our recent trip (December). Let me know how to send or post and I will be glad to share.

To others who have the opportunity to go to Antigua - do it (caveat: check with your agency to be sure it is ok - our agency said 'go for it', that it was very safe, etc.).

Its a beautiful place, a World Heritage site with a lot of history and charm. We had up to 2pm one day to get there and back from Guat. City on the day before we were to leave ('visa day'). The hotel concierge found a company who could arrange that, including a tour guide who spoke English, for a great deal for the three of us. Antigua provides you with a beautiful memory of Guatemala, and being only an hour way from the capital city is more practical to fit into a short day trip than some of the other 'must-see' destinations we are still longing to visit someday.

I have to agree with you Gayle! I told my husband when we went down to pick up our daughter--I wish we were independently wealthy and could just spend a month down here, having our baby all too ourselves. We stayed 5 days but not nearly enough time to explore all the nooks and crannies in Antigua. We mostly stuck to the Mercado area and the one church and small park with fountain.

Any info on the church ruins or how old it was?

Fantastic pictures--makes me relax just looking at it.

I lived in Antigua for three months and became very close to a lot of people there. I really miss it and it was so nice to see these pictures. Thank you for posting.

I think she's referring to the Arch of Santa Catalina. If you don't have them please let me know I can forward you some. We named our daughter Catalina,.. so we made sure to take a few!
