New Head of PGN

President Berger has appointed a new person to head the office of the PGN. From my translation of the story in Prensa Libre, it appears as though some are claiming Pres. Berger does not have this right. It would also appear to have some partisan politics involved.

We are hearing that the new appointee, Roberto Molina Barreto, is a constitutional lawyer with great respect for the Guatemalan Constitution which would certainly be a positive for those concerned with adoptions.

Click here to read the story from Prensa Libre.

This move will most likely mean that there will be a change to the PGN position that leads adoptions currently held by Sr. Merida.

As we learn more, we will pass it on...

I hope this recent big change in the pgn brings positive changes to guatemala's highest ruling court. Especially for intercountry adoption -- I know there is great concerns about the change, but let's hope and pray that it will be positive -- for the children's sake.

my husband and I have just started the process to adopt a baby boy from guatemala - we are still in the Home Study phase. How concerned should we be with this change? I am nervous!

I was told by my adoption agency that this change has put them behind in issuing birth certificates and visas and even after we get through PGN it could be another 6 weeks before we can travel. Has anyone else found this to be true?

We have been awaiting a Guat City Birth Certificate for 6 weeks now. There has been some turnover and turmoil in the civil registry. It appears to be only affecting the Guat City BC's. Doesn't appear to be an end in sight soon!!

We, too, have been out of PGN since 2/21 and haven't received our new birth certificate from the city civil registry.

We have also been told that civil registry is backed up to about 6 weeks. However, we're trying to think positive in that if PGN is backed up civil registry may get caught up. One can only hope. We have been in PGN since December.......

I've been in PGN only for three weeks. However, my agency informed me this change was a positive one, and should move cases through more quickly. However, reading the comments above, I'm now a bit concerned. Has anyone received any information further?

We received Pink today after a 7 1/2 month long process. Waiting for GC BC was the latest and longest snag. PGN changes seem to be for the good for everyone that I can tell.

Good Luck to everyone else!!
