It appears as though there have been some major staffing changes at PGN. Pres. Berger has been able to appoint someone to the Constitution Court (or it may have been he Supreme Court) and apparently it is Sr.Molina who had been the head of PGN. For the time being, reports are that Alvaro Lobos, who had been the head of the adoption unit, is taking his place as acting the Attorney General. We are trying to confirm the name of who is now heading the adoptions unit. I have no info of what impact, if any, this may have on adoption cases.
Posted by Kevin at March 28, 2006 04:08 PMHi, Kevin,
Can you tell me where I can get this information? I have been searching Prensa Libre and found the bit about Sr. Molina but am having a tough time finding anything about Alvaro Lobos. Also, does PGN have a website?
Thanks,
Eleanor
Thanks kevin for keeping up posted on what is going on from the Guatemalan side of things!
We sure appreciate it. Hopefully the changes won't create too much of a slow down in the pgn.

I searched Prensa Libre as well and couldn't find it. I had numerous adoption professionals confirm it.
As always, we don't publish anything unless we are extremely confident it is accurate. If something is rumor or speculation, we always try to make sure that is clear. Guatadopt's track record for posting accurate info speaks for itself.

I know this is unrelated to PGN but how do I go about finding out if the embassy is doing appts the week before Easter- the 10th. I am being submitted for pink tomorrow or Monday and my agency doesn't know if they are doing embassy appts the week before Easter and I am getting frustrated. I know they are closed on Friday-Good Friday but that's all I know Thanks if anyone can help
Posted by: amy at March 29, 2006 04:39 PMI heard that this shake-up is a good thing, not a bad thing. Hopefully, what I heard is true.
Posted by: HB at March 29, 2006 06:24 PMAny information on this situation as it relates to adoption cases waiting for PGN approval would be appreciated. Thank you for keeping everyone informed.
Posted by: Kim Miller at March 30, 2006 10:18 AMI hope it's a good thing! We have been stuck in PGN for 18 weeks now, with no end in sight. They just requested another document from our lawyer last week, which she turned in the same day. None of the documents they have requested so far had anything to do with us, just certification papers needed on the foster home and info on how our child came into the foster home. I hope this change will speed things up!
Posted by: Sophia at March 30, 2006 09:22 PMHi Kevin,
Have you heard if there is anyone doing the final sign offs on cases in PGN? In other words, has anyone gotten out of PGN since this change took place?
Thanks,
Gail
Posted by: Gail at March 31, 2006 01:59 PMAmy,
Regarding whether the Embassy is open the week before Easter. Two years ago tomorrow we got our little girl. The date fell so that we were in G. City over Palm Sunday and we had our Embassy appointment on that Monday. I can't speak for the rest of the week but Monday should be open and probably more than that. Good luck.
Gail,
My friend just got our of PGN this past Monday. She got pink very quickly, too. She is bringing her baby home next week:)
Posted by: HB at April 1, 2006 08:52 PMI have my fingers crossed this shake up is a good thing. I have been stuck in family court from July 2005 to November 2005, and then PGN since then. Please keep us posted on what you hear.
Thanks
Laurie
Hi Kevin
We have been in PGN since January 10th and were
kicked out for updated Federal Clearances, On Tusday March 28th, we are back in PGN with all our documents submitted and the new head of PGN pulled several cases ours included and said he needs to take a closer look. Our first reviewer after 6 weeks said everything looked fine and the baby would fit into our family nicely but wanted updated fingerprints and FBI clearance. Our facilitator could not give us a time frame but as of April 10th we will be in the PGN for 3 months.
So Kevin do you have any insight as to what is happening and if he will cause us major delays?
Thanks, Dianne
Paparo
I'm wondering about PGN. Our daughter's case is waiting for DNA approval from US embassy, then back to PGN. Our social worker told us embassy is taking 45 days to approve DNA, then PGN up to 6 weeks. With the new staff changes, is this going to speed up the PGN process? We were told our case was already in PGN and so far it's gone easy. Does anyone know if we are in the clear for easy going, or is it still a long process?
Hi Again Kevin,
Well we have been told our case is going back into the Courts for an intense investigation and will take SOME TIME to complete. I think this is more than the new Head of PGN taking a closer look. I know you said to hang in there but I'm not sure without frequent updates, I will be able to keep my sanity. We have gotten so far and the attorney who reviewed our case said everything looked fine but wanted updated Federal Clearances. Why was our case not thoroughly looked at from the beginning before it got this far? I am told it is very rare for a case to be investigated, so something must be terribly wrong. What does SOME TIME mean? And what if we wait all this time to be told the adoption cannot be completed. Will they even let us know on a regular basis how the investigation is going? If anyone is going thru this same ordeal I would love to hear from you. I am so sickened by this whole thing! Thank You, Dianne Paparo
Diane, my case is being investigated also. Please e-mail me directly sbrogan@aol.com if you would like to talk about it and compare notes.

Posted by: Laurie at April 7, 2006 10:06 AMI just wanted to post an update since I said we have been stuck in PGN since Thanksgiving. We finally received PGN approval on Monday, April 3!! I haven't received any other news since then, but was told to expect to travel within 2-3 weeks. Our baby was not born in Guatemala City, so we expect to get the reissued birth certificate a little quicker.
Posted by: Sophia at April 8, 2006 02:38 PMI have been in PGN since Dec 2nd and can't seem to get any answers as to what the hold up is. None of my paperwork has needed to be resubmitted. If there is anyway to get any information on approximately how long we we all be waiting in PGN, that would be great rather than being left in the dark
Posted by: Sandy at April 18, 2006 09:20 AMKevin,
The question running around is, Is this a good thing or not. There have been hardly any outs that anyone can see.
Have you heard anymore informatoin on the new head of PGN and possible who it is or where we can find information on it?
You know how the wait is, any little tid bit of information is nice to know. Thanks.
Mandy
Posted by: Amanda at April 25, 2006 02:43 PMI have been in PGN since Feb. 20. I am going crazy. I am fostering in Antigua and expected to be home by now.... any news on why so many continued delays???
Posted by: Janice at May 2, 2006 11:52 PMHi,
Any news on PGN? It seems like things have slowed down.
Tracy
I am very concerned with the almost complete stoppage of case approvals since the personnel change at the end of March.
Do we need to be concerned with the Hague legislation activity in the Guatemalan congress as it relates to activity in the PGN?
What are the attorneys saying about PGN - have they been consistently turned away?
I am beginning to think there is more to this slow down than just a "change in personnel".
