Dear Readers,
It has come to my attention (thanks to some research by Donna of the Yahoo list), that some of the comments regarding "Adoption Supervisors" may not be honest postings by legitimate families. We are investigating at this time and believe that the AS we all know and love is PROBABLY NOT involved in the postings. For your own safety, please do not use any links regarding Adoption Supervisors from this site until we verify what is going on. I would also ask that you do NOT offer your own "validations" (otherwise, we will just have more comments to investigate and I will most likely delete them so as not to confuse the issue).
I emailed them because the parent who gave me the email of the people she was useing didn't tell me about the dash in the website for the official site. I rec'd an email back and now am so glad that I didn't act any further. Is there anyway to know for sure that this is not a legit agency???
Posted by: judy at July 24, 2006 03:17 PMI too had contacted the (the one without the dash) and am glad I did not go further with them. I received an email today from them stating that they are the right ones and that they are the ones being made to be the bad guys. I should have known something was wrong when I received a reply email at 1:30 AM CT from them. I guess I just thought that they worked all night long.
Posted by: Kelly at July 24, 2006 07:34 PMI contacted them too, and although I did not use them, they were very up front with me, never asked me for any money and gave me some very good advice free of charge. I'm not sure what is going on, but I do feel that it is wrong for adoption-supervisors to post and state in a round about way that people should not be using someone else. Unless there is a legitimate reason for that posting, I do feel that, that posting should not have been allowed.
Posted by: nancy at July 24, 2006 11:29 PMI would like to make a few things VERY clear. First of all, Guatadopt.com contacted SJI (otherwise known as the original Adoption Supervisors organization who has a HISTORY of assisting families). They have never posted to our site, nor made announcements in the past. I posted their announcement UNDER MY OWN because THEIR reputation was being compromised by this other START-UP organization. I can't imagine anybody who has a good reputation being "happy" if someone tries to USE their name to gain an advantage without their knowledge or permission????? So, lets discuss why I felt obligated to alert the public:
1 - The copycat's website recently registered (in June).
2 - Any organization who has ANY knowledge of the Guatemalan Adoption process would be aware of SJI's branch that helps adoptive families....otherwise known as Adoption Supervisors. This suggests that the name choice was to gain clients by name association. In my opinion, this is rather sleazy.
3 - The 20+ posts from supposedly happy families were posted in broken English. Upon investigation, we found that only one was an accident by a family who used SJI. The rest ORIGINATED FROM GUATEMALA.
4 - The original discussions were about SJI NOT this new AS.
I spent several hours investigating the posts, verifying information and taking action. I do not make decisions lightly. If others are comfortable with giving their information to an unknown in Guatemala because they sounded nice...fine. Just don't coming crying to me if it turns out badly. If the organization had simply cropped up without what *I* consider underhanded methods of operation, I would have STILL posted to be careful about trusting your PERSONAL information with an unknown.
There are plenty of people more than willing to interfere with your adoption...and it could further stall or even disrupt your adoption. So, making a decision because someone sounded nice or is "up front" with you is risky.
I will also moderate information as I see fit. I will not be posting comments with their site link anymore (I will remove the links). This is my decision since the misrepresentations were made to my site and it is not up for a vote.
While I do not want to be so harsh on parents, I felt this response was necessary to clarify MY position on the subject.
Posted by: Kelly (guatadopt.com) at July 25, 2006 08:37 AMGo, Kelly, go!
There are so many unscrupulous individuals and organizations involved in adoption, and it hurts the reputation of good people and agencies who are honestly trying to fill the needs of children.
This start-up copycat group shouldn't be given any more opportunity to do harm to the adoption community.
Thank you for being a responsible webmaster, investigating the situation, and warning your readership.
How do I contact Adoption Supervisors? I need some help with our case. I read some posts online and found that some are illegitimate? Which email address is correct for Adoption Supervisors?
Posted by: Gina Marshall at August 22, 2006 08:23 AMSo, which adoption supervisors is the legitimate one? Please give me the correct email address for that one. We are having major troubles with our case. Thanks
