Excellent! I especially like the fact that the US is not Hague compliant. I am curious as to how DOS is going to reply or hopefully make the necessary changes. You will probably hear alot of thank yous, but thank you very much for sharing this information. I hope alot of people get the opportunity to read this rebuttal and start to comprehend the adoption process in GT and what the outcome might be for so many innocent children. Marie

Wow! This is indeed the most comprehensive over view of this entire situation to date. Thank-you to FOA for their efforts to bring to light the hypocracy of both the USDOS and of the Guatemalan Executive Branch.

The Rebuttal especially was well worded and factual. Good for FOA. I will be curious to see if DOS even repsonds to this.

Outstanding. Very interesting that the US will maintain a mostly private adoption system when they become Hague compliant but are pushing for a centralized system in Guatemala. I'm still scratching my head as to why the difference.

Thank you to the FOA! This is something that I can send to my family in response to all of the negative press recently. It's hard to explain to those not in the process what's going on.

Big thanks to Guatadopt for keeping us informed.

I am printing copies of these statements for my family and adopted sons: it will show them what I've always believed. The rebuttal and press release are what I've been waiting for. I wondered a little as to why no response to the DOS FAQ statement had appeared, but trusted the champions of Guatemalan adoption: now I see that in fact the time was taken to digest and articulate the response to the DOS FAQ statement clearly and carefully. I trusted our advocates previously, and now admire them all the more for the wisdom and prudence they have shown in crafting their accurate, careful response. Shawn

I agree 100% with Shawn--could not have said it better.

Thanks Kelly and Kevin for posting this and for keeping us up to date on things that are important.

I agree with everyone who commented on the excellence of this statement, and on the great job by Guatadopt of keeping us informed.

I am just wondering if anyone at the DOS will pay any attention to this rebuttal, or if they even know it exists.

The only thing I can think of is to forward this rebuttal to our U.S. Senators and Representatives. The time may come when we need their support for Guatemalan adoption and/or their advocacy with the DOS--if they are all armed with the facts, that would help.

I know many of us wrote our Senators and Reps in Guatadopt's recent call to action, but I suggest this rebuttal to the DOS statement needs to get in their hands as well.
