Conference Reviews coming
OK, Kevin and I just returned from the Adoption Ethics and Accountability Conference. It was wonderful to meet several of our posters and to have a chance to get face to face discussions with everyone from UNICEF Guatemala to CQ parents to social workers who have been doing Guatemala home studies. I can't speak for Kevin, but I am BEAT! Kevin and I will be posting a pretty thorough review (each of our perspectives) on the Conference, where we go from here and some ideas that were spawned during the conference.
I also apologize for the calendar pre-ordering delays. We have been trying to get the secure site working properly, but getting some tech assistance after-hours has been impossible. Not to worry, we will be extending the pre-ordering as long as we can but we have no choice but to make it short since we have to place the order soon to make our Christmas goal!!!!

Thanks for representing our community, especially during these tense times. Please take time to recover and enjoy your families!
Is a link to the calendar pre-ordering site posted somewhere on Guatadopt? I want to order a 2008 calendar, but can't seem to find it.
Also, MANY THANKS to you and Kevin for keeping us all informed of the ongoing developments regarding the Hague. While I don't have as much time to read and post since completing our adoption this summer and becoming a working mom (our adorable daughter turned one year old yesterday!), I still do my best to keep up with this site and do my part in the letter-writing campaigns, etc., in the hope that Guatemalan children and their adoptive families can continue to be united forever. Keep up your great work!
Welcome back. I was hoping to be able to attend the conference, but couldn't manage to take the time off from work, so I am looking forward to your reviews/summaries!
I think we often take so much for granted when we come here anxiously to daily check the latest developments. I just hope you know how much we appreciate all you do! We all really cannot thank you two enough for. We know you make great sacrifices to do all that you do. You have truly been a lifeline for so many of us during these very difficult and uncertain times.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Was anything discussed at the conference about Adoption Agency accountability? As we are all painfully aware, if your agency and/or attorney is horrible, you really have no recourse if you are interested in keeping your referral. I would be interested in seeing more discussion about this topic, which has been the elephant in the room of Guatemalan adoptions.
When you talked with CQ Families at the conference, did any of them say what happened at court on October 10th? Wasn't that the day where all of the children and their lawyers were to be in court?
Great point, Steph. I estimate my agency and/or atty has caused me to miss ~ 6 months of baby Paco's life. I was actually glad to get back into PGN, because they've been more efficient than my hired crew.
