Happy Mother's Day

Today is Mother's Day in Guatemala. So we would like to send out best wishes, love, and respect to all of the mothers and foster mothers to whom we and our children owe so much. While some claim that a women who relinquishes her child is trying to abandon her motherly responsibilities, many of us who have contact with our children's birthmoms know this not to be true. The fact is that it takes huge courage and love to be able to put your own self aside and care for your child's health, future, and well being so much that you make the such an extreme sacrifice.

And to the true heroines of Gutaemalan adoptions..the cuidadoras (foster moms)... I don't know what else to say but thank you! In the current crisis where adoptions are taking longer, more than ever it is you who will ensure that the children are impacted as little as possible. And it is you who will have the ever more difficult job of handing over a child who you have come to love like your own. To my kids' foster moms, we love you and I'll be calling you later.

Thank You Kevin for acknowledging all the Mom's in Guatemala. I'm sending much love to our foster mom and our DD's birthmom. They will forever be in our hearts for the gift they have given us.

First, I really appreciate the updates you have been giving. Thank you. Do you know anything about the CNA taking kids from foster homes and putting them in an orphanage even after being out of PGN? I we told by our agency that the CNA went to our foster home and they could come back and take the child. We are so close to having a pink slip, we have the birth cert, passport, birth mother signed off. The 2nd DNA test is Tuesday. We were told we should consider going to Guatemala before even having a pink slip to foster our child ourselves so the CNA could not take her. They really could not answer “what are the chances”. Would you know or know of cases like this recently?
Facing a difficult decision, sincerely,
Julie

Thank you Kevin for the post. I did call my foster mom today to wish her a happy Mother's Day, and also my Birthday. She was not expecting the call, and was so very grateful for the call. I am and will be forever, thankful to have being blessed with and an amazing extension of my family, the foster mom and her family. They all have been doing an amazing job in raising my daughter every single day. I can only hope that she knows how important she and her family has been in our lives.

Happy Mother's Day to all!

Thank you Kevin for your "Dia de Las Madres" post! This is my first year as a Mom to my beautiful 12 month old baby boy from Guatemala. I was able to speak to the foster mother who cared for him and she deeply misses him. My joy is her pain, so I pray for her. I am also in debt to the bio mother who brought him into this world and gave him life - a life which he now shares with my husband and I. Feliz Dia de Las Madres to all of you!

Thanks for posting about Mother's Day in Guatemala. I called Ana our wonderful foster mom, and even though we couldn't communicate much, it was so wonderful to hear her voice and our daughter said "BYE!" when we were done. It was my favorite mother's day gift this year...hands down.

Happy Mothers Day to all!! I came across your website as I was trying to figure out what is happening with international & domestic adoptions in Costa Rica. If anyone has any infomation on adopting from CR - I would certainly appreciate it. I never considered Guatamala - I live in Canada and would appreciate futher info on adoption from Guatamala. My husband and I are Canadian and have just completed our homestudy.

Julie:
I find it hard to believe that an agency is telling it's PAP's to be afraid after they have the BC, Passport and 2nd DNA has been authorized. The remaining items, 2nd DNA results and Embassy Appointment are on the US side. You don't have anything to worry about, rest easy. I would call your agency on Monday morning and ask why fostering at this point would make a difference?? You will be issued your pink slip in a week or two?? Doesn't make sense to me.
