Will PGN be releasing cases today or tomorrow?

Yes....at least that is what they are *planning*. There are nearly 300 cases that are ready to be released. But probably only 100 will see the door this week that have passed the birthmother interview. We're hoping today or tomorrow we'll hear some good news.

Birthmother interviews: As we have said before, we have no way of verifying EXACTLY what has been said in some interviews. However, US authorities have been meeting with PGN and have been seen around the building. We know of several organizations that have formally or informally requested that PGN ensure that the interviews are respectful of the birthmother's rights not only as the biological mother, but as a person who is making a difficult decision for the future of her child.

In the meantime, there is still the question of WHY some children have been removed and whether the sited reasons justify the PGN's actions. Reports to the Prospective Adoptive Parents have classified them as "insignificant" or "clerical". Unfortunately, the speculation and rumors have muddied the waters. We HOPE there is no alterior motives behind these removals other than a legitimate fear that the birthmother has not been adequately represented. Instead of us making that call, we will just focus our energies on requesting that PGN REALIZE the trauma invoked on these children and their prospective parents!!!

As this is a difficult time for everyone, we ask that NO comments are posted unless it is SPECIFICLY what you were told about YOUR case. Please see the comment rules by clicking on the questionmark next to "comments" below this post.

Hi Everyone,
I hope this comment is okay to post, it is pertaining to my birthmother interview that took place last Wednesday and it was very harmless for our birthmother. They just asked her 4 main questions and then they asked to speak with her privately for a few minutes to makes sure she was still comfortable with her decision. My foster mother was there and I spoke with her last evening to get the details. I think the reason the interviews seem to take longer than everyone thinks they should is becuase they are entering things into a computer while they are interviewing them. I was so greateful to hear that she was not treated badly. I trust and believe my foster mother 100% so I really feel this is the truth to what happened. I hope this helps.

Do we know for sure that all cases are requiring an interview?

Thanks for the update. I needed that! I sure hope that happens!

I'm still not clear on how they're handling abandonment cases. Does anyone know?

If you had an interview - does that mean you are ready to get out of PGN? One of my birthmothers had her interview and all went fine - does that mean I am actually going to be one of the files to leave PGN soon? I'm afraid to get happy.

I also would love to know if all cases require a birth mother interview.

And, what does "releasing cases" mean? Do these cases go back into the process of PGN or are they ready to exit PGN???

If 300 cases have been finished during this past month, where does that leave those of us who haven't even entered PGN yet? I hope this process speeds up. I am in despair thinking that as one of the last ones to be through PGN, our case could hang out for months and months while interviews are taking place.

Do you have any news as to when they will reschedule the interviews that the birth mothers missed? My grand daughters birth mother lives far from the city and could not make it in time for the interview.

We talked to our foster mother after the interview and were disheartened to hear how it went. The interviewers tried to change the bio mom's mind.

Through it all, she stuck to her original decision. Thank God she loves her child enough to make the sacrifice she is making. I fear for the families who have yet to go through this process, that under the pressure some of these bio moms may change their minds, even if they aren't able to properly care for their children.

While I was in Guatemala last week a facilitator with the PGN told us that 800 cases had been interviewed at that time. We still do not know the criterion for being interviewed other than many were those who had already been signed off before the new attorney general took office.

I do hope this is true, that cases will be released today or tomorrow. Our case has been in PGN since Feb. I do pray they are releasing the cases that have been in PGN for over 3 months. I was informed by my agency that it depends on which process your case has been through in the PGN if your case will be released or whether you will remain in PGN until the reviewing process is complete & your case has been approved. I have not been able to get any info regarding my case the entire time it has been in PGN, only that my birthmother has been interviewed and it went well. This has been the hardest part of the entire process. I spent an entire day trying to call the PGN to get info & all I got was a $200 phonebill & no answers. Thanks to Guatadopt, you have been my savior through this process. Thank You sooo much for keeping me updated! Lisa & Brian

I am in an abandonment case and our boys were interviewed (and said "Yes, they'd like to be adopted")I think maybe it happened last week.

I have the same question as several others. Our birthmother's interview was earlier this week and we were told everything went fine. We went into PGN at the beginning of February. If we have been through the Birthmother interview, does that mean our case is ready to come out? Thank you for all your updates.

Does anyone know if they actually released any cases today?

We have heard from our notary that our case that has Barrios'signature and has been in PGN since Dec with no previos has not had the birth mother interview yet. Our notary (Attorney) goes to PGN daily to ensure that they just did not notify her of the interview as she stated has occurred on several other cases. PGN is also not scheduling birth mother interviews as stated -completing the cases waiting to exit PGN first instead they are randomly choosing the cases to be interviewed and often only giving a one day notice. We have written our Senators, JCICS, CCAI and Dept. of State... with no assistance. JCICS has been at least aware. Our Senators were not even aware of the current Pres. in Guatemala. We are praying for all PAPs, our children, birth mothers, foster parents and our attorneys. We are hopeful but very scared.... we just want our daughter home. I pray that the news truly is that they are releasing cases and that the other cases will be releases soon and not held unnecessarily. I also pray for those families that have lost their children.. .our hearts and souls hurt for you.

What would happen if a birth mother did not show up or declined to come to an interview?
