Cases were released today!

Some cases were released from PGN today. Some came out with Previos and some were Approvals. We have not verified how many at this time.

Added: Around 50 released. 10 were approved, the rest had Previos. While not great news, remember that paperwork is not necessarily tied with birthmother intent. Let's hope that these are minor issues and can be resolved quickly.

Oh Come on give me a break! After all this waiting they are releasing cases with previos. Now we have to start all over, when will it stop.

Ugh, thousands of families in-process, many for well over a year, still pining for their kids, and after a month of hellacious waiting, we are at 10 approvals and 40 previos?! It is really hard to see this as anything other than a strategy to wage a war of attrition: try to get as many birth mothers to change their minds as possible, and drag out all the cases until the waiting families are so financially and spiritually bankrupt that they give up. But we aren't giving up! Even though this is going to be a long row to hoe.

How frustrating. Didn't the new PGN say they weren't going to be issuing as many unnecessary previos? And now it seems they're being even pickier than the old administration.

Does anyone know what the protocol for resubmits will be post-BMI? I hope it won't be another 8+ week wait...

Dear Anonymous:
Please try to remain positive and keep the faith that you will bring your child home.
We were blessed to finally bring our son home in March - after 14 months and endurance of all the drama and heartache of the Fall.
Know that you are not alone and there are so many of us who understand your pain and anguish. Know even more that those of us who were fortunate to recently bring our children home remain involved and pray for each of you who are still waiting to hold your child(ren) in your arms in your homes.
Keeping the faith for all,
CEF

After almost 18 months of this, I tend to be with "Annonymous". We sat dormant with the first reviewer for 57 days before moving to 2nd reviewer. Now I am waiting for a BMI even though I was a MARCH resubmit. I could go and on with my frustration but I won't. It's just high time that my child comes home.

Well all I can say is it's a start in the right direction. I'm just happy that some people are working over there and releasing some cases.

With this information, I hope that they will start accepting new cases....Maybe? Do I dare to hope? It's been 15 months and the loss of one little girl (returned to her BM). I'm hoping to get a referral for another little girl. I know I have to keep the faith, but everyday she grows older without me as her Mom. How cruel is that?

If anyone in Guatemala is reading this maybe they can shed some light on the acceptance of new cases?

Sorry, but I am of the same mind as Anonymous. Our case is 28 months so far. We actually had Barrios's signature and were at the window to be picked up when the new Director took over and reclaimed our file. We had the BMI this week and by all reports it went well. If we get another previo at this point I think I am going to really lose it. We are preparing ourselves for it, though, since the odds do not look good.

Few weeks ago Kevin told us that a guatemalan boy, adopted by an american family, was very sick. He got leukemia. I don't want to violate the privacy of the family, but if it is possible, my wife and I would like to know if positive and uncouranging news are coming from the doctors. We keep praying for the child and his family.

Vince,

Thanks for asking. His treatment is progressing well. The updates I read are heart wrenching to imagine this poor little guy having to contend with chemotherapy, tests, etc. Keep your prayers coming!

The last time we got a previo was in April. They said there was a Central Authority number that was wrong. The number wasn't wrong and the lawyer proved it to the person at the desk and resubmitted immediately without changing the paperwork at all. However, it still resulted in starting PGN over for the 4th time. When we see kick-outs and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the paperwork, we are still supposed to be patient, positive, and believe the best. They interview the birth mothers and still only let out 20%, while making 80% start PGN over again.

Is the U.S. Department of State weak or an accomplice? How long will we be abused before it's considered too much? …before it finally becomes common knowledge that this is about agenda and not truth; about the best interest of the government and not the best interest of the child?

The stated goal for all this is to stop illegal adoptions, but the only thing being accomplished is stopping nearly all legal adoptions. All we've gotten in 2008 is Grandfather Plus. The old laws plus CA registration. The old laws plus birth mother interviews. The old laws plus raids on orphanages with nothing wrong. I don't mind them verifying that the birth mother intended to give up her child, but even after they verify that, they still have this many previos? I am asked to stay calm and believe this process is honest and fair with no other agenda?

Kevin,

If you would like to give our email address to the family whose son is treating for leukemia, please feel fee. Our son is 5.5 years old now, but was also diagnosed with cancer. He was 9 months old and still in Guatemala when he was diagnosed. He is fine now thank goodness, but if the family would like someone to talk to I would be happy to communicate and/or offer support. Let me know how to communicate my email address to you if they would like to talk.

Some good news also to report. We are waiting for our daughter to come home now. Our birthmother interview was just two weeks ago, and a week later we found out we got a previo which we expected. Not great news about the previo, but great news that the file was reviewed so quickly after the positive interview. Now we just hope to be resubmitted quickly and that we won't have to wait TOO long for our final decree.

Best wishes to all,
Lynn

Hello all-

This information should be shared with all of your Senators and Congressmen... there are 2300 American families effected by the issues in Guatemala. Our Secretary of State office SHOULD be advocating for it's citizens.

"Deputy Secretary of State John D. Negroponte will lead the United States delegation to the 38th regular session of the Organization of American States General Assembly in Medellín, Colombia, on June 1 and 2. From June 3 to 6, the Deputy Secretary will also visit El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. While there, the Deputy will meet with senior government officials and members of the private sector and civil society to discuss a range of bilateral and regional issues, to include the pending Merida Initiative, our commercial relations and the Central American Free Trade Agreement (DR-CAFTA), security concerns, and development cooperation."
