Tomorrow is the DEADLINE for presenting Birthmothers and children for interviews at PGN. The deadline also applies to ABANDONMENTS so the children must be taken in person to PGN.
I want to make something perfectly clear: NO EXTENSIONS HAVE BEEN GRANTED. We've checked. If you have been told this, EEEHHHH (sound of obnoxious buzzer!).
Start the bugging process ASAP if you have been told this!
ALSO, remember that we desperately need votes!!!!

PLEASE LET YOUR FRIENDS KNOW and SPREAD THE WORD!!! Announce it on your FaceBook, your MySpace, send it out by email.
Please pray for us. Our daughter is 20 months old and our case is stalled. Our file had been lost in PGN for eleven weeks, and although now found in the last week, the birth mom will not come in without her contact who is out of the country on vacation (in the US somewhere)...our attorneys and our coordinator are working with the contact's daughter to try and encourage her to come in...she apparently only trusts this one person...
We are so terribly frihtened of what may happen Monday morning...we have made six visits with little Katie-Grace, and we are simply lost as therre is no one who seems to know what will heppen to us and our little girl, or how long it will take....
God Bless all of you in similar situations...pray, pray, pray...
Posted by: David & Christine at August 30, 2008 09:20 AMI am sorry . I hope all turns out well!!!!!
Posted by: babyme at August 30, 2008 02:56 PMDavid and Christine,
We have some very stressful issues in our case, but God has resolved them; we are expecting "pink" any day now.
We are so sorry to hear about your case. Know that we are praying for you, for a miracle, and for your little girl to come home soon.
In Jesus's Name,
David and Toni
What happens if the birth mother did not go to the BMI? The case was grandfathered in by the deadline. I am being told my case continues but noone seems to know what process is being followed. Any information will be helpful.
Posted by: Denise at September 1, 2008 07:43 PMIf anyone has received a birth certificate from Mixco recently, can you please post how long it took? Or, how long they are telling you that it will take?
Thanks!
Posted by: AEC at September 1, 2008 08:18 PMIf our children have already received their abandonment decrees and their cases have already been submitted to PGN (with no progress) whate does the deadline mean for us? There is no way the birthmother will come in. We tried for six months to get her to come in.
Posted by: laura at September 1, 2008 09:44 PMToday the CNA had this announcement on their website (sorry - it's a Google translation):
Looking to 900 children to be adopted iban
The Guatemalan authorities will begin the search for some 900 children who were registered to be given up for adoption, but whose paperwork never continued.
"There are at least 893 who were not submitted to the review of records and we will investigate where they are, what happened to them," he said on Monday the PA official of the National Council for Adoptions, Jaime TECU.
The dossiers of adoption of these minors were registered as adopted in February but the lawyers who were responsible for the process never again presented to children to continue the process.
"We believe that if they did not was because there are serious anomalies, that is what we are going to determine now," he added TECU.
The National Council for Adoptions and the National Counsel's Office (PGN), entities that are responsible for overseeing the adoption of children, sought to lawyers who took the steps to find out where are the children and then establish the health status of .
Subsequently, no longer under the care of a juvenile court to be returned to their biological mothers or put up for adoption under a new system.
The congress approved in December a new law on adoptions focused on cleanse a corrupt system in which lawyers were responsible for the entire process, from getting pregnant women to deal with the U.S. visa for the child. For each case, lawyers came to collect up to $ 30,000.
After changing the law was discovered that there were cases where lawyers falsified documents to facilitate adoptions, and in at least one case, it was observed that a girl who had been stolen had begun its process of adoption by an American couple .
"We will deploy staff from other areas of PGN to find those children," he told the AP the special adviser of PGN to the issue of adoptions Franklin Azurdia.
TECU said that if children do not appear to challenge the lawyers and people in whom they have delegated the guardianship of minors.
The National Council for Adoptions and PGN sent in May 2379 that the 3,033 cases that were recorded in February was revised in whom the biological mother and was given opportunity to recant give your child up for adoption . 654 had been adopted between the date of registration and timing of the initiation of the review.
The PGN on Monday issued a report detailing that 33 children were rescued, 26 of them found anomalies in the dossier and the rest by the will of the biological mother. Nine were reported to the prosecution
Posted by: Caroline at September 2, 2008 07:53 AMThrough our adoption supervisors we learned that our facilitator did not or could not meet the Aug 31 deadline for BMI. Has anyone heard about PGN granting any extensions and for what reasons? We are trying not to be devastated.

Posted by: Celeste at September 2, 2008 08:49 AMCaroline, Mr. Jame Tecu is well known as a strong opponent of the international adoptions. Does he know how many domestic adoptions have been finalized sice the Ortega law was approved? I can tell him right now: Not even twenty. I am sure he is among the ones that believe that there isn't any need of the international adoptions because really there aren't children in need in Guatemala and all the ones adopted ( stolen ) could have had a normal life with the biological parents. It's sad. Considering that he is " indio ' and that the indigenous are the onesthat really are the most affected by the poverty and by the discrimination by the guatemalans of europeans descendece.
Posted by: vince at September 2, 2008 11:36 PMAm I reading the CNA post correctly? Are the 900 children they are referring to those whose attorneys did not bring the child to PGN along with bio mom by August 31?
The article says that they are "Subsequently, no longer under the care of a juvenile court to be returned to their biological mothers or put up for adoption under a new system." Kevin, any thoughts on what they mean by a new system (is this a judge, or will they force these adoptions to be completed under the new laws).
The article also says "We will deploy staff from other areas of PGN to find those children" Does this mean they are going to go looking for all these kids...and then what will they plan on doing with them?
They make it sound like the attorneys dropped the ball on the adoptions and also as if the kids are missing or something. When really what is going on is that the bio mom either cannot be found or refuses to come in.
If anyone has more information, please share.
Posted by: Holli at September 3, 2008 11:31 AMI too, did not have my BMI. My case left FC 6/6/08 and nothing was done until submitted to PGN about 2 days ago. I am terrified at what will happen b/c no BMI. If anyone knows anything at all, please let me know. You can email me at Scarlett729@yahoo.com
Thanks, and I'm praying for all of our children.
Posted by: Desiree at September 4, 2008 07:02 AMRegarding the BC from Mixco - We received our BC after a 2 1/2 month wait. We were told that our contact person had to pay an additional fee. An interesting side note, we told our agency that we would not continue the process if the BC was not released and low and behold the BC was released within the next few days.
Posted by: BA at September 4, 2008 08:36 AMWe waited a little over 2 1/2 months for a BC from Mixco. We were told the contact person had to pay an additional fee in oder to expedite the certificate. After waiting over 2 months we told the agency we would not continue with the process if the BC was not obtained shortly and low and behold we then had it.
Extortion is still rampant.
To the moderator of this website - deeply disappointed that you chose not to post my response regarding the Mixco BC inquiry -BA
Posted by: BA at September 4, 2008 09:21 PMAnswering my own question in case someone else was wondering the same thing - birth certificates from Mixco are taking less than a month. We submitted on 8/21 and they expect to receive it on 9/9.
Can anyone share any timelines on getting the passport thru PINK? I'm hoping it's about 3 weeks (or less, of course)....
Posted by: AEC at September 7, 2008 02:21 PMBA,
Kelly and I are the only ones who clear comments. We have been very busy, Kelly is still recovering, and we've having technical issues getting into the back-end to clear comments. We don't censor...

Little bit of misinformation on my part on 9/7 above. Our agency said that they were picking up the bc on 9/9 but our update now says they expect it on 9/17. And, no, I'm not surprised. Just mad at myself for getting my hopes up prematurely!
