One Wednesday at 12:00 est I will be appearing on Dawn Davenport's "Creating a Family" internet-radio adoption show. The title of the show is "Guatemalan Adoptions: What Does the Future Hold".
You can find all the info on how to listen (you can listen anytime after it airs via the internet), who else is on it, and how to call in here:
Posted by Kevin at May 12, 2009 07:38 PMKevin, you were great. Your respectful yet insistant challenge to the State Dept. and effectiveness of the Hague and what will happen with the "next Guatemala" are the real cruxes of the larger issue that we, as Americans, CAN effect. Thank you so much.
Posted by: kakooshush at May 13, 2009 01:17 PMEven though the show was about Guatemala and moving forward or looking forward, I wanted to say thank you Kevin for explaining that you had to look back a bit to see why things are happening the way they are in Guatemala and that is that Guatemala was not ready to handle the mountainous task at hand in implementing the Hague. I appreciate you challenging Michele Bond and DOS to address the obstacles at hand in Guatemala and at future programs and what to avoid. I know it was difficult to not get into "attack" mode but I felt your points were well received and hopefully fell on ears that can use that information and implement it. The fact that the US took 10 years to implement the Hague (with all of our resources)is a scarey thought and what Guatemala is facing right now. I hope the US can/will provide all the necessary tools to Guatemala so the Central Authority can be successful in getting up and running and sooner than 10 years. There are children's lives at stake.
Thanks for representing us, adoptive parents, Kevin. You did a great job! I wish there had been more time AND I wish Wendy C. was able to phone in. Thanks again for giving your time to speak up about this!

You ROCK!
Kevin,
You are a very good speaker. I'm glad you were able to make the points that you did.
Best, Cheryl
Posted by: cheryl at May 15, 2009 03:58 PMKevin, I just wondered....you previously said that you heard from your sources that the writing of the implementations of the laws was 97% finished. Then, the State Dept. rep stated that the implementations will be written based on the results of the pilot programs. Do you have any confirmation of this from other sources? Any news about Byron Velasquez yet? Thank you for everything you do for this community!
Posted by: kakooshush at May 19, 2009 10:24 AMDear Kevin,
We have been involved with a Guat adoption since June 2007.Our baby was 3months old at that time. She is living in a foster home. Now we heard that the bio mother now has to have another interviw this is her 3rd interview. How long will we have to wait after this interview. In Dec 2007 we went to spend some time with our daughter. We have meet many delays since then and have given up our life savings for this baby. What will happen to her if the adoption does not get finalized and what happens to the parents that have given their hearts to these children and thousands of dollars to an attorney and facilitor. I do not understand why they are making these children wait to come home to a loving family.
