For starters, there are no new adoptions being started from Guatemala! So my posting this thread is only because "you never know" who might be researching ICA, trying to adopt from another Central American country, etc. As always, if somehow this site's reach can help right a wrong, we'll give it a go! It's a huge longshot, but why not try...

This little guy was snatched from his family in Jalapa. The CNA is concerned he could be sold for adoption (domestic or ICA in another country), prostitution, slavery, etc.
Posted by Kevin at December 23, 2009 09:35 AMHI Kevin;
Thanks for posting this. The struggle for the protection of children at risk continues in its uphill march. The more coverage, the better. You are doing good, as you advertise!!
The sad fact is that some people are still responding to back alley offers of children...and apparently with the purpose of an adoption...not pornography or worse. As we try to apply pressure to actually do something about the very bad traffickers, the waters stay muddy as long as there are people who say they don't mind a little corruption and law breaking if the end is a good one. In the end, the best policing will occur on this front by the adoptive community of the U.S.
I couldn't help but notice as I followed the Link to the Prensa Libre, that also in that day's paper was an article about Norma Cruz, and her being nominated for person of the year.
That reminds me of the flack you caught on Pund puppies, re giving Susana Luarca positive coverage here, and allowed pretty vehement slander by Susana against Norma.
Maybe it is time to give her her due?
Posted by: Steve at December 23, 2009 12:53 PMSteve, Kevin doesn't owe anyone anything. You know Kevin allowed no more talk against Norma then he has allowed against Susana and others including APs. He's allowed Karen to post commentary that was very inciting to APs and didn't until recently point out to her why she might be recieving some venom. Usually if Kevin censors anything which is rare he explains why, obviously hates doing it, and tries to push for people to be more careful with their words. We as people tend to notice the comments when they strike something we care about and don't tend to notice other comments which do not get an emotional response from us. Thats not a knock on Kevin. Despite the slanderous undue and untrue crap he took on poundpup he's always been fair and allowed an open forum. I say that with warm regards Steve. Nothing personal. You've been very considerate here compared to some which is why I listen to you. Kevin has allowed everyone to talk regardless of whether he or we agree or like it.
Posted by: lisa at December 23, 2009 09:54 PMI hope they find this little boy.
Posted by: lisa at December 23, 2009 09:59 PMSadly, this little boy was found dead yesterday. He was found buried, his throat slit and beaten with a fractured skull. This little guy was found in the back of his neighbor's house, right in front of his own house, buried about seven days ago.
Posted by: Nancy Bailey at December 24, 2009 11:52 AMWhat a horrible ending to this story. My heart goes out to his family.
Steve, you were premature, at best, in your assumption that this was an example of "back alley offers of children...and apparently with the purpose of an adoption...not pornography or worse."
sjbj- I have no idea why you made that statement to Steve. Apparently you did not read the newspapers in Guate, nor follow up on the case as you were premature at best, in your assumption that this was not an example of back alley offers of children either or adoption or something worse. The woman accused of kidnapping the child is affliated with a large kidnapping ring in Jalapa. You may want to go into our Guatadopt archives and retrieve the Galicia sisters kidnapping and the story of Enma and Candida. Sadly, Enma is still missing and presumed in danger.
Due to this, officials are alarmed and acted quickly in the arrest of this kidnapper. Officials in Guate are aware of kidnapping rings that continue to plague the nation.
