Sorry, it's been a while since I've posted anything.
Here's an intersting story I found on ICA, with some focus on Guatemala.

Posted by Kevin at March 17, 2010 04:15 PMWonderful- so a Russian woman can be paid to bear or adopt a child- $10,000- has corruption written all over it, if you ask me.....
Posted by: Area at March 17, 2010 06:04 PMyes...people can now be paid to bear kids in other Countries and that is ok....and apparently it is ok that poor Sylvia sits in an Orphanage because it is too late for her ! corruption can find it's way into the best of any system....and it's sad and tragic. But always the children suffer. I guess there is a certain amount of collateral damage certain groups feel they can stomach to further their agendas.

We completed our Guat. adoption in 2006 and never had any fears or witnessed any events that made us suspect wrong doing of any kind what with all of the finger printing, background checks, DNA tests, social workers involved in both countries, courts, lawyers, and mounds of legal paper work (just to name a few things). On a side note, this was printed in the Denver Post on March 18, 2010 -
"Foreign adoptions will resume in Guatemala" -
"Guatemala City" >> "International adoptions will resume in Guatemala this June after a nearly two-year suspension prompted by the discovery that some babies were being sold, officials announced Wednesday.
Four foreign adoption organizations will be selected to be a part of the pilot program."
I have been to the orphan care home where Sylvia lives three times. She is precious and well loved by her caregivers as are all of the children there. If you have to be in an orphan care home, this is the one to be in. That being said, I pray for her and all of the children there to have a forever family someday. My daughter is also still there. I pray for her to get to come home soon. There are 8 children there that are still "in-process".
Posted by: Twinkie at March 19, 2010 11:17 AMWe have a son we adopted in 2004 from Guatemala. He was four months old when we brought him home! He is now a wonderful five year old boy who wants a brother. We have prayed for Guatemala to resume adoptions...we hope this will happen and we will move forward with the process!
Posted by: Diana at March 19, 2010 08:44 PMI can't help but feel the need to caution anyone who is getting excited about the news of Guatemalan adoptions 'reopening.' Anyone who has recently been in process (count me in) or is still in process can tell you how disorganized the whole adoption system is, a mess. Although they are trying to clean it up and put a new system into place, from what I understand, this is just a trial with VERY few children being available for adoption initially. And it is a trial. No one knows yet how functional this system will be. Adoption today vs. several years ago is a completely different beast, and while I sincerely hope that the new system will benefit the children left behind, I do think this news should be looked at with extremely guarded optimism. It will never be as it was before, and for good reason. That being said, my heart continues to ache for all of the children who are caught in the mess, and for the families still waiting to be united who began their adoptions under the old system.
