I know this won't be popular with all so if you disagree, then don't sign. But I was sent this from family in Guatemala and IMHO it is a minor move to help some people get out of fear and be able to help their families back home get things back together.
In short, the storms have been horrible and the country is far from recovered. There is still widespread flooding. This is a petition to ask President Obama to lay off on deporting Guatemalans for the time being. You can read the details yourself on TPS.

Posted by: sjbj at June 17, 2010 09:28 PMA country is judged by how they treat their most vulnerable citizens. We are a country of immigrants and we need to do the right thing. Is is as simple as that! I know this is naive but I cannot fathom people objecting to this. Thanks for informing us about it , as always.
Posted by: harA at June 17, 2010 10:53 PMAnn: Since you are a member of the Guatemala 900 campaign please note the following: For two years while our case was in PGN they kept giving our file previos for a child's name that was born to a single parent...the child had one last name. We did what PGN asked and changed the name on the BC to include two last names not to mention the whole file had to be changed. Now I am finding the hold up in RENAP is due to the fact that the lawyer does not like the paper and thinks it is a fake. I just can't believe we can't bring our daughter home and there is more of a hold up at this point due to the birth certificate issue that PGN made a big deal about. I found out it is perfectly legal for a single mother to register her child with one last name. Anyhow, Guatemala has a long way to go in improving there procedures. Our child has had to wait because she was born to a single parent and more had to be made of the birth certificate then necessary. And what about PGN finally approving the file and now RENAP is questioning the birth certificate that PGN asked us to change???...why must we go through more delays for the same issue. My daughter turns six years old in August. When we chose to adopt her she was three years old. We missed all of her toddler years. when I got this news today from RENAP I just cried all over again. They say they hope to rectify this next week. Somehow I fear this will take more then another week. We have been in RENAP for two months. RENAP never even existed for the three thousand grandfathered cases before me...I just feel sick to my stomach right now...I just can't even believe this is happening all over again...I really hope something comes of the petition.
